Explanation of my motivation to start this blog about learning a new language and becoming a polyglot!

As mentioned in my "" blog post, I wasn't going to take the 'learning one new language at a time' route. I want to be learning multiple new languages - at the same time, and although I had some ideas on how I was going to be learning multiple new languages at the same time, I also did research on how others are learning new languages and what their language learning suggestions and, specifically, new language learning strategies are…

Turns out, a lot of their suggestions didn't fit my style of learning or they, at the very least, couldn't bring across their new language learning ideas to show me how it *could* work. Finding someone to Skype regularly to talk in a new language you're learning? I don't use Skype and I don't want to spend my time behind the computer on a sunny day Skyping to someone. Mental image mindmapping with a single image, either simple or elaborate? I must've had bad luck, 'cause none of their images managed to make me remember the words they were demonstrating.

That is not to say most of the suggestions are wrong, just that they are not all that clear cut and generally applicable without modification. And that is where I want this blog to fit in!… On the one hand, combine the ideas and research on learning new languages that's already out there, and on the other, be critical and look at modifications and nuances on how to apply those ideas on learning a new language.

On top of that, I of course have my own ideas about learning a new language as well, and by sharing them here… who knows, it might be able to help other aspiring polyglots and even single language learners.

This goes for aspiring polyglots   - AS WELL AS -  for single language learners ! In my previous blog post (" 🔤  A first thought about learning a new language i.e. becoming a polyglot ") , I already mentioned my stance on learning new languages is to scale UP the amount of new languages you're learning and actually try learning MORE new languages simultaneously, as opposed to scaling down to learning less new languages at a time. Here I'll sum up some of my reasoning behind that extensive new language learning stance… 1. How do you approach that? You may've noticed in my translations up 'till now I only used Latin script / Romanization . There are different thoughts and ideas about learning a new language or how to become a polyglot , here is one of mine… *DO* learn multiple new languages at the same time! (and learn how to go about learning multiple new languages at the same time, starting from " 🔤  Learning a new language - Step 1 to becoming a polyglot ") I have noticed quite a few comments on message boards and Facebook groups of people giving the advice to stick to learning one new language at a time, grasping one new language before moving on to learning a next new language. All of them of course citing reasons from their own experiences. Most cited reason is that of negative transfer in new language learning i.e. 'mixing words up' and falling back to grammar rules of your own native language. Well, guess what… you'll ALWAYS have the risk of mixing up words and falling back to your native language, whether you're learning 1, 2 or 10 new languages. You...

While being the best polyglot you can be and looking up words for learning a new language , you might've noticed that there's usually more than one option to choose from (at least in Google translate)… Which option to choose? Well, before we go into that question… You need to know that, at least Google translate, doesn't always give the right translation… I know, Shock! Haha But neither do textbooks or apps always give the best translation! Textbooks and apps tend to give very polite and quite formal translations, which don't always correspond with how native speakers actually use the language in everyday life.
